Hey,,,BEWARE OF HOUSE AGENTS,,

The police in Lagos have arrested a developer, Hakeem Garba, for allegedly duping prospective tenants with a building located at 12 Daniel Makinde Street, Ketu, this was reported on Tuesday that Garba and some others at large duped over 100 prospective tenants, collecting money ranging from N200, 000 to N750, 000 to rent out 14 flats. It was learnt that following a tip-off, policemen attached to Ketu Division were able to locate Garba, who is the prime suspect, and arrested him. A police source said, "After over 100 tenants came to report the matter at the station, we were able to get some details about Garba and we learnt that he had been arrested before for a similar offence and that he was due to appear in court. "We traced him to the court and as he was coming out, we arrested him. He has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba,
for further investigation,As we visited the SCID on Wednesday, observed that another set of 100 victims had come forward to write statements, bringing the total figure of victims to 205. The victims' lawyer, Onome Emojevbe, who also fell prey to the fraudsters, said the case would be pursued to a logical conclusion. Emojevbe said the victims had visited the Lagos State Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Ade Ipaye, and had also staged a
protest at the House of Assembly. He said, "On Tuesday, we visited the Attorney General and he promised us that the state government would ensure that the cause of justice was served, but urged us to remain calm and
allow the law to take its course. "We then staged a protest at the
Assembly and the Speaker, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, also promised
to intervene and said the Assembly would deliberate on it. "As of Wednesday afternoon, 201 people had written down their names and submitted photocopies of the receipts the developer issued. About five more people just arrived but haven't registered their names." Policemen at the SCID were unsure of the chances of the victims collecting their money back. An officer, who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, said, "Suspects arrested for fraud are entitled to bail no matter the amount of money involved. Once the case is in court, the victims would not be allowed to hassle the suspects for their money. "Also, it is only a court that can decide if the house should be sold or not and since the suspect is not the owner of the property, I doubt if it could be sold." It was learnt that due to the large number of victims, the police divided them into groups. Spokesperson for the police command, Ngozi Braide, who confirmed Garba's arrest, said the case would be followed to a logical conclusion.,,,Be warned!
