Labour Warns Buyers To Keep Off PHCN

Organised Labour in the power sector, yesterday in Lagos, advised the companies that won the bid for, and were said to have paid 25 percent on the privatisation of Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, to stay away from PHCN installations.
Under the umbrella of the National Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE, labour equally described the transition committee said to have been set up by the Minister of Power, in collaboration with the Bureau of Public Enterprise, BPE, as illegal.
In a statement by its General Secretary, Joe Ajaero, NUEE insisted that among others, no takeover of PHCN assets would be feasible until all labour issues were resolved amicably.
“We wish to reiterate our earlier position and the position jointly reached by stakeholders even before the appointment of the present Minister of Power, that no takeover process shall commence until all labour issues are resolved.
“We wish to, therefore, advise all the people concerned to stay away from our formations until this process is concluded. By this release, all our members are urged to be on stand-by.”[VN]
