POLICE arrest FAKE Medical Doctor at UUTH

The Police in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital have arrested a fake medical doctor who paraded himself as a consultant to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH) in the state,It was reveal that the victim was arrested by the internal security of the hospital and handed over to the police for further investigations. Confirming the report, the management of the University Teaching Hospital said the fake medical doctor; one Usen Akpan Effiong, was picked up while loitering at the open ward department of the hospital. Briefing the media at the weekend, the Chief Medical Director of the Hospital, Prof Etete J. Peters, distanced the institution from the claim of the victim that he was a consultant to the hospital. He said it was absolute false the claim by the fake doctor that he had been consulting and attending to patients in the hospital as all the doctors and other categories of medical personnel in the employ of the hospital are well trained and easily recognised. The management UUTH explained that the said Effiong was found loitering around the Out Patient Department of the hospital and was picked up by the university’s security and handed over to the police. Effiong’s movement, the university said, was suspicious even though he was wearing a ward coat, thereby giving people the fake impression that he was medical personnel. The authorities maintained that medical consultants in the hospital see patients in rooms and not opened ward.. For the purpose of putting the records straight and in order not
to undermine the confidence of the members of the public, who have been turning out in large numbers to access health services in the hospital, it is proper to inform all and sundry of the true position of the matter.
“The young man who gave his name as Usen Akpan Effiong was found loitering around the Out Patient Department of the hospital. His movement was suspicious even though he was wearing a ward coat, which would give anybody an impression that he is medical personnel. “It is important to state here that he never consulted and did not attend to any patient before he was apprehended by the internal security of the hospital and handed over to the police for further investigation”, the hospital said. The management of the hospital urged members of the public to disregard any report linking the fake medical personnel to the hospital, saying
doctors in the institution are well trained and pass through due process before employment. According to the hospital, everything in the hospital is being handled in accordance with international and national acceptable health standard, reiterating the commitment of the management to run excellent health care for members of the public
