Boko Haram Takes Over Police Training College In Gwoza

Gwoza town has been lost to the Boko Haram insurgents, who invaded a well-known Nigerian Police training college in the Borno town

Gwoza town is located 183 kilometres south of Maiduguri, the capital of troubled Borno State, North-East Nigeria.
A security source revealed to journalists in Maiduguri that the training camp was finally overrun by the insurgents on Wednesday after running battle a day earlier.
The militants, who numbered several hundred, stormed the police college with five armoured tanks they had earlier seized from Nigerian soldiers who had had made several unsuccessful attempts to dislodge the sect from Gwoza over the last two weeks, reports Sahara Reporters, citing police sources.
Another source disclosed that numerous trainees were either killed or seriously injured by the militants who carried out the assault.
“Those who survived the attack had to run to the mountains nearby,” said the source. He added that some of the trainees managed to escape to neighbouring Adamawa State.
A police source told SR that the surging militants blew up an armored tank stationed at the gate of the training camp before gaining entrance into the school and wreaking havoc.
Boko Haram had two weeks ago seized much of Gwoza town, hoisting the sect’s flag and appointing an Emir to administer the town, in an action similar to the activity of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.
The town’s traditional ruler and several of his subjects had escaped the town following attacks by the insurgents.
